I am a stay at home mom come optician and with a degree in Psychology. I live in the Pacific Northwest near Seattle. I have two grown sons, the youngest having just turned 18 this year. I grew up on a small farm on the other side of the sound, but now live in suburbia...I love the open country and animals and am blessed that my parents, married over 50 years, still live in my childhood home abundant with fields, forest and streams. My boys have spent nearly every summer with them and their lives have thus been truly enriched.

I came to SP a few years back to shave off that pesky 10 pounds that vexes most of us at some point in life. I used to be a runner but now I have a knee that flares instantly the minute I hit the street. I miss running and the freedom to just be able to open my front door and get an exhilarating cardio workout out in the fresh air without ever setting foot in a gym. But now I have this wonderful site full of thoughtful people who share the same goal of good health. I love the quick, easy, free mini workout videos on Sparkpeople as well as the recipe ideas. I also enjoy connecting with other sparkers and appreciate the supportive environment.

I do believe that laughter is the best medicine and love irony, witty humor, sarcasm and anything that involves a play on words. I've learned that a lot of the time reality is funnier than fiction and you need to be able to laugh at yourself if you're going to get through it unscathed. I've learned that exercising will never be as easy as eating but that the easy way is almost never the right way. And finally, I can assure you that money does not buy happiness, but still, I'd rather be miserable in a Mercedes than on a bicycle. And for my last pearl of wisdom (customized just for SP): Pig out today, tomorrow you pay!

My Goals:
My goals are to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

My Program:
I love super cheap, easy diets with structured meal plans that take the guesswork out of the equation.. Don't thrills me to see weight drop quickly. I know these diets are not recommended, but they seem to be the only way I can lose weight. I'm impatient when it comes to weight loss. I want to hurry and lose it so I can get back to "good eating" again. I know the roller coaster of weight gain and loss is very bad and frowned upon by nutritionists. But to tell you the truth, I've always liked roller coasters. Whenever I see one while visiting a new place, I HAVE to get on it. Cheap thrills, what can I say?

Once I bungee jumped over a crocodile pit in Australia.

When it comes to house selling/buying it's no where near as straightforward here. Potential buyer might make a verbal offer, seller accepts or refuses. Potential buyer may increase their offer if the seller refuses the initial offer. Negotiations might continue until a price is agreed. At which point if the buyer is really interested, they'll instruct a Surveyor to do a report. At that stage you have to assume they are serious 'cos said report will cost them a few hundred pounds.

Assuming there is nothing in the surveyors report that the buyer hadn't already had at least an inkling of, legal things will move on and a date will be agreed to exchange contracts. Which is the point where it will cost a lot of money for either party to pull out. Completion of the sale is normally 4 - 6 weeks after the exchange of contracts.

Legally we have to have an Energy Performance Certificate here to sell a house. It costs around £70 and lasts for ten years. No one cares about the EPC. It would be much more useful if the seller had to provide a Surveyors report to all prospective buyers. One report could be good for say a year.

Downside? Less money generated for Surveyors. Plus if Buyers didn't have to pay for the Surveyor report they'd probably put in more speculative offers. Sellers may be unable to afford the Surveyors report.

Upside? Sellers and buyers would have a more realistic valuation from which to negotiate.
